S=The apparent power S in kilovolt-amps (kVA)
P=the real power P in watts (W)
PF=the power factor PF
So that you can define Kva are equal to power(P in watts) divided by 1000 times the PF.
1 watt :1 watt is the power of an appliance which does work at the rate of 1 joule/1 second (consume energy) watt is used in electrical work any power of electrical appliance hence the rate at which energy is consume so the power of electrical appliance is defined in terms of watt.
kVA (kilovolt-Amps):VA stands for (volts X Amps) Kilo (Volt X Amps) or just (kVA) is the apparent rate, expressed in quantities of 1,000 Volt Amps, at which energy is being transferred. kilo Watts (kW) is the real rate,expressed in quantities of 1000 Watts, at which energy is being transferred.
So that you can define kilovolt-amps(Kva) are equivalent to watts divided by 1000 times the power factor(PF).
Find out the apparent power(S) in kilovolt-amps(Kva) where the real power is 2000W(P) and the
power factor(PF) is 0.8.
Apply formula for the Solution:
S = 2000W / (1000 × 0.8) =2.5kVA
So kilovolt-amps are equal to watts divided by 1000 times the power factor.
kVA = volts x amps x .001
1 kilovoltampere is equal to a 1000 volt-amperes, and we already know that 1 volt-ampere is
equal to 1 Watt.so that we can say that,1 KVA is equal to 1000 watt.we know that Watt is identical to VA,So that both are measurement of the Power.
